Visitors from near and far flock to Struisbaai (large bay) all year round, but especially during the busy summer holidays.
An important attraction in the town is the group of historic fishers' cottages & the minuscule thatched church which are now all national heritage sites. The longest uninterrupted white beach in the Southern Hemisphere? Oh yes! It's right here at Struisbaai, all 14km of it! A wonderful walking beach with safe swimming in the turquoise warm water for all. Struisbaai beach are rated one of the Kite boarding hot spots in South Africa & hosts popular competitions during the "Geelstertfees" (Yellowtail Festival) in March.
From the main beach you can follow the wooden boardwalk all the way to the quaint, bustling fishing harbor who attracts photograhers & artists alike. It is indeed a pleasure to see the fishing boats coming in laden with a catch destined for community supper tables and the restaurants of the area. |
